Current Vacancies

Please note that in line with current regulations you will be required to have either completed or be undertaking your Care Certificate.

These days working in care is a highly skilled profession with a deep ethos of respecting people’s dignity and demonstrating kindness and mutual respect in every aspect of the role. If you are absolutely sure you have the qualities that underpin this approach to the role but you have not yet got any experience or qualifications we may be able to assist you.

We offer the following (unpaid) Work Experience and training programmes that will lead to a job offer (this may be contracted or it may be a casual contract in the first instance – depending on our roster at the time).

Just left school or college? First four weeks ‘shadowing’ a member of staff or assisting people with meals, drinks and activities to learn some of the skills required for the role. This opportunity allows both you and us to gauge your suitability to the role. If at the end of this 4 weeks both you and we agree the role is suitable we will start you on the Care Certificate training programme. We will pay for your DBS, Patient Handling and Health and Safety training as well as supporting you to achieve this qualification and once you start your 9th week with us you will be offered paid employment (this may be through an apprenticeship).

Currently unemployed? As above – the DWP will allow you to retain your benefits for the first 8 weeks of the programme. In this time we will gauge your suitability and if you are assessed as suitable for the role, we will offer you paid employment from the 9th week.

Already working? We want to be absolutely sure that you are both suitable and dedicated to a new career in care before you leave your existing position. It is very important that you are both motivated and suited to the role and complement our existing team. Therefore, if you do not already have experience or qualifications in care we will ask you to spend some of your spare time volunteering to achieve some work place experience before we offer you the opportunity to join our team. Depending on a number of factors such as your age and eligibility for funded training will determine what we are able to offer.

Staff Development

Tui and Steve Shirley, Registered Providers at The Oasis, actively encourage and support staff to gain the skills and qualifications that will meet the needs of the home and which will also develop their future careers - see attached examples of training we provide for our staff: see training provided. Staff promotion is based on competence and dedication with many of our staff progressing into senior positions.

Current training being undertaken by our staff includes the new diploma in Health and Social Care which replaces the NVQ. These diplomas can be achieved at levels 2 to 5 and staff are able to choose units relevant to their roles to make up their diplomas or to work towards units that can later go toward the next level as they progress in their career development.

Two of our staff have completed the St Lukes Six Steps to Success programme. This is aimed at providing high-quality end of life care which further enhances the professionalism of our care team by gaining up to date skills from such a reputable training provider. The “Six Steps to Success” programme was adapted by the charity’s education team from initiatives in other parts of the country.
